With almost a thousand students, Leander, TX’ Wiley Middle School boasts an excellent 14 to 1 student-teacher ratio, which is significantly lower than the national average, and helps ensure students living in Deerbrooke have greater one-on-one access to teachers. Built in 2006, the school board and administration chose to name the school in honor of Bernice Knox Wiley, a dedicated mother and volunteer, for her commitment to public education, as well as a similar commitment by thousands of parent and community volunteers who dedicate their time and expertise to Leander ISD schools.
Located just five miles from the Deerbrooke community, the Knox Wiley Middle School’s address is 1526 Raider Way, Leander, TX 78641, making it easily accessible for parents who wish to drive their children to school. School hours are from 8:55 AM to 4:05PM each day with certain days of the week dedicated to a flex schedule for extended learning.
WMS offers courses for grades sixth – eighth with school mission to rise to the challenge of inspiring young minds. The Wiley Middle School staff are committed to collaborating to build a safe, supportive, and respectful community that promotes meaningful and engaged learning through accountability, creativity, and compassion.
WMS participates in the Leander Mobile Learning Initiative (mLISD) and is a 1:1 campus, focused on providing each Wiley Middle School student with increased opportunities to engage in gathering new knowledge and skills, building meaning and sharing what they have learned in meaningful and innovative ways. In order to support this, the school provide students with increased access to digital content, resources and devices to support anytime/anywhere learning.
Wiley Middle School Student Activities
WMS is home to the Wiley Coyotes, a formidable mascot name for the variety of sports teams that students can join, including football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and track and field. Students who want to show their school spirit and pride can join the Wiley Middle School Silver Spurs, the school’s spirit organization and competitive dance team that performs at all WMS home football games for both 7th and 8th grade.
The Fine Arts program at WMS offers students an opportunity to explore their artistic talents as well. The Wiley Middle School Band and Choir are great programs for those that want to try playing an instrument or enjoy singing. Aspiring thespians can select theater as an elective, and those that love to draw, paint (using tablets for children), sculpt or create other works, WHS offers art classes each school year.
And for those that are interested in academic or spirit clubs, or simply want to help make a difference in fellow student’s lives, WMS offers students the opportunity to join AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), a college-readiness system, C2 (C-Squared), a student formed group that promotes anti-bullying and inclusiveness, cheerleading, National Junior Honor Society and Student Council. Wiley Middle School Rating
Wiley Middle has earned a four-star ranking in state assessments based on student achievement and progress. All middle school campuses in Leander ISD, including Knox Wiley Middle School received a Met Standard rating for State Accountability 2018.
